How Much Does Your Company's
Free Website Really Cost?
There are a lot of real estate companies that give agents a free website, and let's be honest, it's always tempting to have turn key operations, something already set up and running for you, especially if you are less than an expert in the vastly changing web.
But, let's look at the pros and cons of utilizing a company's website as opposed to your own.
Con: The REAL cost.
What do I mean by the real cost? The real cost is the fact you don’t own it and the lack of portability. If for any reason you decide not to be associated with that company, the site is not yours (I hope you at least own the domain name). Hopefully, you can export the leads. The same applies to company email addresses.
Why do companies give free sites? Retention, they know that it may slow you down or even prevent you from leaving.
Let’s say you own the domain name, you leave the company. You can use that domain name with another solution and transfer all your leads to the new site, but the drawback is that all the leads that have accounts, are already getting updates, have saved homes, and are used to the GUI (the interface)… You will lose a bunch of those for sure.
So the real cost could be missing a better opportunity, losing leads, losing credibility.
It is best that you create and/or purchase something that you control and retain the ownership. Same for emails, phone numbers…
If you ever decide to leave, you simply log in to your site, change the company name, change your signature file, order new cards…all while giving your clients the same experience they have always had with you, seamlessly and more important Consistantly.
At Aubrey and Associates Realty, we believe and teach you to be independent of the brokerage, so that on the off chance you decide to leave, it is pretty simple.
Something to think about!
